This strip shopping center posed many challenges. It was built in 4 separate time periods with differing designs, while facing the streetfront with all the parking in the rear.  Ken's design unified the entire blockfront, without a monotonous extruded look.  He designed each storefront with individual identity for each tenant, attempting to create a feeling of an old-time village with it's own identity. The block's pedestrian walk was designed to incorporate cover from the elements with cast iron columns forming  the edge of the protected walkway. Ken also added nightime streetlighting, and used brick and other streetscape elements to make the block feel like a "town" and  like a "place" that just did not exist there before!
